The problems we solve
Where NGO finance teams lose sleep
Grant utilisation audit failures
Grant of ₹50 lakh received from GIZ for a 12-month education project. Project closes. Auditor asks for utilisation breakdown by activity. Excel scattered across 4 folders. 3 days lost reconstructing. Donor loses trust.
Every expense tagged to a project, grant, and activity head at the time of entry. Real-time utilisation vs grant budget. Auto-generated UC (Utilisation Certificate) at project close. Auditor gets a clean report in seconds.
FCRA quarterly panic
Quarterly FCRA return due. Foreign donations received from 3 different countries. Log maintained in Excel. Manual classification into Schedule A and B. Errors trigger scrutiny. Your FCRA registration is at risk.
Foreign donor receipts flagged automatically. FC-4 quarterly return generated in 5 minutes. Annual FC-4 in under an hour. Full audit trail of foreign fund receipts and utilisation per FCRA requirements.
80G receipt delays frustrate donors
Major donor gives ₹5 lakh in December. Asks for 80G certificate by February for tax filing. Manual process — someone has to type it out and sign. Takes 2 weeks. Donor frustrated. Might not renew.
80G receipts auto-generated the moment a donor payment is confirmed. Email and WhatsApp delivery. Donor portal lets donors download all their receipts anytime, any year, without calling you.

Frequently asked questions
How does FCRA fund tracking work in AskBooks?
All receipts from foreign donors are flagged as FCRA receipts and credited to the designated FCRA bank account ledger. Expenses charged against foreign grants are tagged to the FCRA fund. AskBooks generates the FC-4 quarterly return with Schedule A (receipts) and Schedule B (utilisation) automatically from these tagged transactions.
Can AskBooks generate 80G receipts automatically?
Yes. When a donation is confirmed (either via online payment or manual entry), AskBooks auto-generates an 80G receipt with the trust name, 12A registration number, 80G registration number, donor PAN, amount, and date. The receipt is emailed and WhatsApp-ed to the donor instantly. Donors can also download receipts from their portal.
Is CSR reporting supported for corporate donors?
Yes. Corporate CSR donors need annual CSR utilisation reports in the format prescribed under the Companies Act. AskBooks generates project-wise utilisation reports showing fund received, spent, and balance for each CSR project. These are accepted by most corporate CSR teams and their statutory auditors.
How is the income of an NGO assessed for tax?
A trust or Section 8 company registered under 12A has its income exempt from income tax, subject to conditions — primarily that 85% of income must be applied for charitable purposes. Form 10B (tax audit) is required if income exceeds ₹2.5 crore. AskBooks tracks income application and generates schedules for Form 10B.
Can we track grants from multiple donors separately?
Yes. Each grant is registered with the donor name, reference, purpose, amount, conditions, and budget heads. All expenses are tagged to the specific grant at entry. Multiple grants from different donors — domestic, international, government, corporate — are tracked in separate grant ledgers. Real-time grant burn rate is visible per grant.
